FILM INDEPENDENT, NEON PRESENT LIVE READ OF TRIANGLE OF SADNESS
DIRECTED BY ACADEMY AWARD NOMINEE® RUBEN ÖSTLUND
AT THE WALLIS ON FEBRUARY 27

Special Guests include Fred Armisen, Nicholas Braun, Alison Brie, Tia Carrere,
Ayo Edebiri, Jordan Firstman, Brett Goldstein, Kumail Nanjiani and more

LOS ANGELES (February 22, 2023) — Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards and Film Independent Presents – a year-round program offering screenings, conversations and other unique cinematic experiences – has partnered with the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts to present a Live Read of NEON’s Triangle of Sadness. Ruben Östlund (Force Majeure, The Square) will direct the reimagined and recast stage reading of his three-time Academy Award®-nominated film at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts’ Bram Goldsmith Theater on Monday, February 27. Cast members include Fred Armisen (Portlandia), Nicholas Braun (Succession), Alison Brie (Somebody I Used to Know), Tia Carrere (Easter Sunday), Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Jordan Firstman (Rotting in the Sun), Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso), Kumail Nanjiani (Welcome to Chippendales) and more to be announced.

“What a joy to do a table read with this group of fine actors! Together we are planning for some surprises. I don’t want to scare anyone off, but there will be some risk involved in attending this event,” said Östlund.

“We’re excited to bring absolute chaos to the Wallis stage with an A-list cast and an Academy Award®-nominated director,” said Rachel Bleemer, Director of Programming and Events, Film Independent.

In Ruben Östlund’s wickedly funny Oscar® nominee and Palme d’Or winner, social hierarchy is turned upside down, revealing the tawdry relationship between power and beauty. Celebrity model couple Carl and Yaya are invited on a luxury cruise for the uber-rich, helmed by an unhinged boat captain. What first appeared Instagrammable ends catastrophically, leaving the survivors stranded on a desert island and fighting for survival.

Past Live Read guest directors have included Marlee Matlin (Sunset Boulevard), Quentin Tarantino (The Hateful Eight), Jason Reitman (Ghostbusters) and Marvin Lemus (L.A. Story), among others. NEON’s Triangle of Sadness, written and directed by Ruben Östlund and originally released theatrically in October 2022, is now playing in select theaters, available on VOD, and will be streaming on Hulu March 3. It is nominated for three Academy Awards®, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Triangle of Sadness is Östlund’s second consecutive Palme d’Or at Cannes.
