Logline

Jordan, a queer and neurotic young man, has his life turned upside down following the sudden death of his beloved therapist. Unconvinced that her death is accidental, Jordan dives into a full-blown investigation to get to the bottom of her mysterious disappearance.

Synopsis

When Jordan (Nick Borenstein), a NYC-based gay chef, learns that his longtime therapist, Catherine (Judy Greer), has suddenly died, his world is upended. Struggling with grief and a flood of unanswered questions, he begins to suspect her death wasn’t accidental. As he launches an amateur investigation, Jordan ropes in fellow patients, pulls his new boyfriend into the chaos, and stalks Catherine’s widow, all in the name of closure.

The deeper he digs, the more chaotic things become. His once-promising relationship starts to crack, his friendships wear thin, and his obsession with the truth leads him closer to answers about her mysterious disappearance, whether he is ready for them or not. Darkly funny and unexpectedly tender, August follows one man’s very unlicensed attempt at detective work in the wake of staggering loss, as he searches for meaning, closure, and the kind of growth his therapist would’ve been proud of.
