Debarati Gupta is an independent filmmaker and screenwriter based in Kolkata, India. Over the past 12 years, she has directed 6 feature-length fiction films and 2 short films, several of which had theatrical releases and streamed on major OTT platforms, including Amazon Prime. Her upcoming feature, The Strange Case of a Divorce, is currently in development. Trained in Media Studies, she began her career as an assistant director on Chatrak, by Vimukthi Jayasundara, which premiered at the Directors’ Fortnight in 2011. She also teaches Film Studies at the University of Calcutta and writes on cinema and culture for national magazines.
