Bio

Paula Puryear Martin is a feature film and long-form television writer who made her directorial debut in 2010 with the short film Hello My Name Is Rajer. She launched her writing career with her original screenplay Jupiter, a fish out of water story about a woman whose eccentricities land her in the mental ward that established Puryear Martin as an original voice. She went on to write The Untitled Africa Project for Twentieth Century Fox, The Revelation for O’Hara Horowitz Productions/ABC, and a story and treatment for The Bad Mother for Lifetime. Her next original feature Moodswings, an As Good As It Gets-like love triangle between a manic-depressive psychiatrist, her medical school dean and the dean’s wife, further bolstered her reputation and led to relationships with such producers as Rob Cowan (The Shipping News, Life as a House), Robert Lawrence (Clueless, Mozart and the Whale) and Academy Award-winner Dan Jinks (Milk, American Beauty). Puryear Martin also wrote the family drama The Bliss Project; Grace Plum, a Bourne type political thriller about a woman who’s secret past threatens to destroy her happy family even as it helps her save their lives, and is currently at work on Family Values, The Untitled CIA Shrink Project and the TV pilot Love.More. Puryear Martin is a graduate of Duke University and Columbia University School of Law. She is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and the Writers Guild of America, West.
