Free Screening: Presenting Princess Shaw

Includes a conversation with director Ido Haar and subjects Samantha Montgomery and Kutiman

This documentary about people connecting in the most unusual of ways comes from filmmaker Ido Haar. He’s the ideal person for this story, since his 2004 documentary Melting Siberia detailed the search for his own grandfather stimulated by Haar’s questions because his mother never knew her father. In Shaw, he unravels the tale of Samantha Montgomery and her double life. In the real world, she’s a caregiver in New Orleans, but online, she has unleashed her powerful singing talents in the YouTube alter ego of Princess Shaw. On the other side of world, the Israeli producer and composer Kutiman spots her work and reaches out to Princess Shaw to create a song that also becomes an unforgettable journey for the two subjects and for viewers as well.

2016, 80 min, color, DCP | Directed by Ido Haar; with Samantha Montgomery and Kutiman
