The Portal

An immersive storytelling showcase featuring work from top talent in Augmented, Mixed and Virtual Reality.

September 20-22, 2019

The Portal returns. For the first time outside of the LA Film Festival – and the second time ever – Film Independent will showcase the most exhilarating new animated, documentary and fictional storytelling in 360, virtual, augmented and mixed reality from exhibitions around the world, in partnership with Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television.

These platforms provide cutting-edge content creators an ever-expanding space to work at the intersection of imagery, audio and interactivity. Adventurous audiences can explore the best of modern XR and immersive visual storytelling at the LMU Playa Vista Campus, September 20–22, 2019.

Excited? So are we. Register for The Portal here or by clicking the button below.

Program

Attendees will have the opportunity to take part in five different types of experiences at The Portal: room scale immersive virtual reality (VR) storytelling; 360 documentary cinema; augmented reality (AR); geo-located AR* and panel discussions with creators.

* Geo-located pieces require the 4th Wall app, available via 4thwallapp.org or the App Store. The app is free for iPhone/iPad (iOS 11 or higher) and Android devices with AR Core. The app must be downloaded using WiFi in advance of viewing the geo-located AR.
